The RBS 6 Nations is Rugby’s Greatest Championship because.. When France win they tend to win big but while 2010 was a champagne year for Les Bleus, the Championship’s final game went right down to the wire.
France teed up the Grand Slam in impressive style, blowing away Ireland by 33-10 at the Stade de France before emerging triumphant from Wales.
And when England travelled across the channel for the final round – reeling from a draw in Scotland the week before – few pundits had the visitors down to overly trouble the French.
The match certainly seemed to start in that vein as the French made their intentions known with a third-minute Francois Trinh-Duc drop-goal.
Then in a matter of moments Ben Foden seared down the left to touch down following a crisp offload from debutant Chris Ashton – well and truly souring the mood in Paris.
However Morgan Parra, so instrumental for France that year, chipped away with three first-half penalties and the hosts maintained a five-point advantage heading into the final stages.
England laid siege in the second half and though a Jonny Wilkinson penalty made for much squirming on seats, France’s six-year wait for another Grand Slam came to an end.
